Contact lenses

Contact lenses, fitted and followed up

A contact lens exam is separate from a glasses exam, because lenses sit on the eye and need their own measurements.

We fit the lens to your eye, let you try it, and check how it is doing at a follow-up visit. Your contact lens prescription is yours as well, and you can fill it anywhere.

What to bring

  • Your glasses and any contact lenses you wear

  • Your lens case and the name of your solution

  • Your vision plan card, if you have one

What happens at the visit

A fitting takes more than one visit.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Exam and measurements

The doctor checks your eyes and measures their shape for the lens.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Trial lenses

You wear a pair before you decide, so you know how they feel.

  3. 03

Step 3: Learning to handle them

We show you how to put lenses in, take them out and care for them. New wearers practice here with us.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Follow-up

We check how the lenses sit and how your eyes are doing, and adjust the fit if needed.

How it is billed

  • Your vision plan

A contact lens exam and fitting is often billed to your vision plan, and some plans pay part of the cost of lenses.

    How fees work
  • Your medical insurance

If the doctor treats an eye problem you have with your lenses, that part is billed to medical insurance.

  • If you pay yourself

If you pay yourself, the front desk tells you the fee for the exam, the fitting and the lenses before you start.

Your prescription is yours

We give you a copy of your contact lens prescription after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere.

Questions we hear

Can I have my contact lens prescription?

Yes. Your prescription is yours. We give you a copy after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere.

Can I try lenses before I buy?

Yes. You wear trial lenses first, and we check how they feel.

How often should my lenses be checked?

The doctor tells you, based on your eyes and the lenses you wear. Many wearers come in once a year.
